Our services are an expression of Christianity’s ancient traditions. The focus is on the Lord and His grace. Much of the service is simply the singing and speaking of Scripture – God’s Holy Word – applying the powerful Truth of God’s never-failing love to our lives for forgiven, praise-filled living.
Calvary is dedicated to preaching and teaching biblical truth and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the sermon and songs, the powerful Truth of God’s never-failing love for even the unworthy is applied to our life and we, the forgiven, are empowered for praise-filled living.
Our atmosphere is comfortable and friendly with a come as you are policy concerning attire. We look forward to you stopping by for a visit.
Calvary Lutheran Church has been serving the community for 90 years. We believe in and worship the Holy Trinity of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as confessed in the three Ecumenical Creeds. We are an established member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
A large contingent of Calvary’s members live in the Waldo, Brookside and South Kansas City area, but our community is made up of members from across Kansas City and its surrounding area. The community is very close and welcoming to all newcomers! At 9 a.m., we warmly welcome you to join us for coffee and donuts in the fellowship hall, which is located just outside the sanctuary. This is a great time to meet our members and get to know us better!
We encourage our members to dress comfortably for our services. Some people dress business casual, some in more traditional business attire, and others wear jeans and t-shirts… everyone is welcome, no matter how you dress! “Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
Our Senior Pastor, Bryce Bereuter (Pastor B), and our Vicarage program participants, are known for delivering moving and honest sermons with a Christ-centered message of grace and hope. Pastor B. has been with us since 1999. Together they are the spiritual leaders of our community.

Our Pastors call the children in attendance up to the altar as part of every service, to present a special message that follows the theme of the service but is designed especially for the children. After church, we invite your children to participate in our growing Sunday School programs and thriving junior and senior youth groups.
Within the Calvary Kids ministry, every child receives special, age-appropriate attention by adults dedicated to caring and sharing the good news of God’s love. Creativity abounds in the theme-inspired classrooms with their interactive curriculum.
The Calvary Youth Group thrives in a great environment where members can be with their friends, learn about current events in culture and Christianity, and grow as followers of Christ. We have both Junior High and High School groups.
Every summer, young children are welcome to participate in Vacation Bible School, where they experience stories of God and enjoy Bible adventures through, songs, and team-building exercises.
Calvary Lutheran School and EEC’s offer top quality, fully accredited education, and a place where children from infant through eighth grade can strive for excellence, serve the Lord, and learn compassion for others. You can visit our K-8 School and Early Education Center programs through the School link at the top of the website.
Calvary has a rich and active music ministry, bringing together adult and youth choirs, bell choir, brass choir, cantors, vocal and instrumental soloist and groups, and guest musicians to enhance our services. We are blessed to have both a pipe organ and grand piano for use in the Sanctuary.
Additionally, Calvary has beautiful artwork throughout the church, including our chancel stained glass window displaying the Holy Trinity with the Lamb of God featured prominently, The Holy Family carving in the west transept of our sanctuary - created by Demetz Studios of Italy (a gift from a Calvary family), Fontini-Style Crucifix in the east transept of our sanctuary, numerous paintings and drawings by local artists in our Prayer Room, and our church itself, built in a cathedral style architecture echoing the shape of the cross, just to name a few.
